Richmond’s Steel City Connection is the Pittsburgh Steelers fan club for the Richmond, Virginia area. Our group has been gathering to watch our beloved Pittsburgh Steelers in Richmond, Virginia every fall since 1988. Although our locations have changed many times over the years, our love of our Steelers and our Pittsburgh family remains strong.
We gather for every Pittsburgh Steelers’ regular season and playoff game and always have the game on plenty of TVs, with sound. We raffle awesome Steelers prizes at halftime of every game (for members). We’ve had former Steelers like Ray Seals, Willie Williams, “Frenchy” Fuqua, Ernie Mills, Jeff Reed and others join us for game day autographs. It’s a great place to bring your family and we even have special events for kids and include them our activities each week. We cheer, we chant, we share stories and we love our Steelers.
As an added benefit of getting together, we also work to raise money for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU. Our support for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond began a year or so after the club was originally formed. Some of the original founding members of the Steel City Connection had children that were helped by Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh and the club wanted a way to continue support of Children’s Hospital here in Richmond, to help our local community.
Over the years, we have raised over $137,000 for Children’s Hospital of Richmond. These funds have all come from the generosity of our members, friends and family who we watch the games with. In addition to passing around the now-famous empty water cooler jug at half time, funds have been raised by generously donated raffle items like autographed pictures, tee shirts, footballs and more. Plus, our Steel City Club Members love to participate in Children’s Hospital events.
In 2025, we became an Official Pittsburgh Steelers Fan Club through Steelers Nation Unite and we are featured in Virginia on their Official Fan Club map!
